Yeovil go without their transfer targets for now

Saturday, November 22, 2008, 08:00

Yeovil Town boss Russell Slade will be without both his transfer targets when Tranmere Rovers visit today.

Stockport defender Gareth Owen remains in limbo and could move elsewhere.

And Port Vale striker Luke Rodgers has had a virus that put him in hospital.

Slade wants to seal loan deals for both players, with a view to permanent transfers in the January window.

Owen has revealed to the Daily Press that he is yet to receive a contract offer from the Glovers' board and will seriously consider proposals from at least two other clubs over the weekend.

The former Stoke defender did not reveal the teams concerned, but they are understood to be Crewe Alexandra and Port Vale.

Owen said: "I am back with Stockport training with them but I have had a couple of offers from other clubs.

"Russell Slade has told me he wants to sign me and my advisors met with Yeovil before the game at Stockport on Tuesday but we haven't had an offer from them yet. At the end of the day I want to get my future sorted out.

"I will be seriously considering the offers I have got over the weekend. My time at Yeovil has been great and I am grateful to the manager for giving me the chance to play, but I have to look after myself and my girlfriend and make the right decision for my future.

"I am looking for a permanent contract so I am not living out of a suitcase.

"I haven't got a preference at the moment but the fact that I have had a month at Yeovil is an advantage."

Owen's debut for the Glovers was a 3-0 defeat at Northampton, but in his next six games Yeovil conceded just four times.

Rodgers' illness means he will be hard pressed to be fit for Tuesday's game at Colchester United.

Cheltenham are also rumoured to be interested in him and could make a move in January. The deadline for loan signings before the end of the year is on Thursday evening.
