Why elderly welcome U-turn on post offices

Postmasters can look forward to stability in sharing in the billion-pound deal. The people's trust in the Post Office over the years can still be relied upon.
We must also be thankful to the Post Office in conjunction with the Army Post Offices in World War I and in World War II for the mail reaching our servicemen worldwide, and it still continues to do so.
I, myself, always received letters in good time while serving throughout the war in the UK, Africa, Italy and Europe. I was able to draw cash from my post office savings account from bombed-out post offices while serving in the Blitz.
The saving of the closure of maybe 3,000 post offices by retaining the card system is a bonus for all.
The present day Post Office, as in the past, has rightly been known as the Royal Mail; no other outfit qualifies, a century of public service knows no equal.
