Jane Pettigrew is one of the best know tea specialists in the UK and makes regular appearances on TV and Radio. She is also a historian, writer and consultant and since 1983 has been working around the world to explain and share the fascinating world of tea. She has written 14 books on the many and varied aspects of tea, its production, history and culture, and she writes for tea related magazines and journals. She also gives regular tea master classes and tea tastings.
We are very lucky to secure Jane's visit to Hurds Hill and at this event, you will have the opportunity to taste a number of teas, from the better known varieties to one or two very rare and expensive crops. Jane will guide you in the art of tea tasting and explains why some teas can cost hundreds of pounds for one cup.
Following the tea tasting we will serve Afternoon Tea in the traditional style, with cucumber sandwiches, scones with clotted cream & jam and cake. After tea, Jane will conclude with a very colourful talk on the history and customs surrounding our favourite beverage including the more quirky aspects of tea culture, tea gowns and tea dances.
