The long wait is over for three churches in the Cheddar Valley.

For 15 months the Church of England congregations at Cheddar, Rodney Stoke and Draycott have been without a priest-in-charge.

But the Rev Sue Rose was welcomed into the post at a packed St Andrew's Church in Cheddar on Wednesday of last week.

She was licensed as priest-in-charge by the Bishop of Bath and Wells, the Rt Rev Peter Price, and installed by the Archdeacon of Wells, the Ven Nicola Sullivan.

After the traditional ceremonies, Mrs Rose and her family were more informally welcomed by community leaders, including Kerry Rickards, the chief executive of Sedgemoor District Council, Chris Richardson, the headteacher of Kings of Wessex School, and Peter Lythgoe, chairman of Cheddar Parish Council.

She was formerly rector of the Alfred Jewell Benefice in the North Petherton area, and rural dean of Sedgemoor Deanery, and succeeds Preb Victor Daley, who retired in January last year.
