Household CCTV caught this man in the act of nicking from people’s cars in Wedmore.

The man broke into three cars in Grants Lane and one in Danes Lea during one Saturday morning at roughly 3.20am, stealing valuables before moving on.

The video from August 25 shows the crook taking his time as he breaks into a Ford Fiesta, spending a few minutes casually rummaging around while being careful not to let the car door slam shut. He then upends his haul onto the garden to better see what he’s got and then walks off to the next car. Money, paperwork and pricey electronic items were taken.

The man is described as white, between 5ft 8in and 6ft, of slim build and wore white trainers, white baseball cap, light coloured clothing and had a distinctive walk.

James Brandon’s car was one of those rooted through and he lost an iPad from his boot but the thief missed a sat nav.

Mr Brandon said: “He must have scouted around before coming here.

“I think he was looking in each passenger door first to see if there was an alarm. Then I heard that four cars were stolen from in Shipham and thought perhaps that might be related.”

PC Kat Fletcher of Cheddar police station said no link between the two villages had been confirmed yet but it was possible.

The police are now checking the CCTV image and urge residents not to leave valuables unattended in their vehicles.

If you can help the police with their enquiries contact Cheddar police station on 101.
