Former Bristol Rovers midfielder Dominic Blizzard, ex-Swindon Town winger Alan O’Brien and one-time Southend United captain Kevin Maher have been named among the trialists at Yeovil Town.
Glovers’ manager Terry Skiverton revealed the trio alongside released Crewe Alexandra keeper Bertrand Bossu, ex-West Ham United midfielder Anthony Edgar and Kiernan Hughes-Mason.
The Huish Park boss takes his pre-season squad to Blue Square Bet South outfit Dorchester Town tonight for their first summer friendly.
However, one player who will not be joining them is Pirates striker Jo Kuffour, who Skiverton revealed turned down a switch to Somerset this week.
He said: “We have got more than enough that we are looking at, this is a great opportunity for them to come in, it is a great opportunity for me to have a look at them tomorrow night and over the coming week in training.
“This will be a chance for us to agree deals with people as there has not been much activity so far and spaces are waiting to be filled by people who want to take them.
“I tried to sign Jo Kuffour this week but it did not come to forefront. He wants to move closer to London if he leaves Bristol Rovers. We made an approach for him and from our point of view we are out there and actively looking.
“Somebody like Dominic fits into that category. I feel we got some really good performances out of Andy Williams last year and Dominic is always somebody you would play inside a bit more.
“He has done very well since he has come in and is another one we are taking a serious look at.”
Skiverton also revealed he would look to sign a contracted keeper before turning to the loan market like in previous summers.
“We have got a keeper we are looking at at the moment – Bertrand Bossu – and we have got another young lad, Martin Horsell, who we are having a look at,” he said.
“Along with (keeper coach) Gareth Stewart we are alright and I want to give someone a chance first to have a look at them on contract.
“If not, we might go down the loan route again because Stephen Henderson has just gone to Portsmouth, Chris Weale came off of the back of us and went to Leicester and John Sullivan got a job at Charlton.
“We are doing very well for keepers lately and we might go down that route again, but I want to give Bertrand Bossu a chance first.”
