Toolstation League round-up: Wells City claim first win against Bitton

Bitton crashed to a spectacular home defeat as Wells picked up their first points of the Premier Division season.

With a chance to make up ground on the early pacesetters, Bitton were hammered 6-0 by the visitors, who took the lead through Tom Manning.

Dan Hunt doubled the advantage before half-time and then Manning, Rob Dunphy, Steve Sokol and Hunt again stunned the hosts.

Winterbourne triumphed 1-0 at Bristol Manor Farm, Dave Buckwell’s bizarre own goal after three minutes handing the visitors the points.

Elsewhere, Larkhall moved fourth with a 1-0 victory at Street, while Willand ran out 4-1 winners at Barnstaple.

In the First Division, Hengrove picked up a much-needed three points with a 4-0 home victory over Cribbs Friends Life.

Ben Bament led the way with a brace of goals, while Ricky Charlton and Joe Parsons were also on target.

Welton never recovered from the concession of two early goals as Westbury took a 3-0 away triumph.

A Jack Melcalfe own goal and a Mark Young effort put Westbury in charge before Beau Blakeman settled matters late on.

Wellington were 3-1 away winners at Cheddar, Darren Rice and Dale Webber giving the visitors a two-goal lead.

Adam Jones pulled one back for the home side, but Joe Conway ensured Wellington took the points with a third goal late on.

Brimscombe returned to the top of the Hellenic League Division One West with a thumping away victory at Purton.

With previous leaders Wootton Bassett in FA Vase action, Phil Baker’s side leapfrogged them with a 6-1 triumph.

Matt Green hit a brace, while Craig Cole, Lee Pritchard, Gary Probert and an own goal completed the half-dozen.

Carterton moved second with a 3-1 home win over Malmesbury, but three of the chasing pack all slipped up.

Old Woodstock lost 2-1 at home to Cricklade, Lydney slumped 4-2 at Hook Norton and Fairford went down 2-1 at Lambourn.

Tytherington eased to a 4-0 triumph at New College Swindon – Justin Bishop, Joe White, Jason Wood and Dale Emery on target.
