Pupils from three schools in Bridgwater have finally got the chance to enjoy the new £52 million buildings that will transform learning in the town.

Head teacher Lesley Greenway in Chilton Trinity School and head girl and boy, Molly Keirle and Jack Griffths, in Robert Blake Science College, were among the hundreds of staff members and pupils who had their first day in the new buildings on Friday.

Chilton Trinity Technology College, Robert Blake Science College and Elmwood School have been rebuilt with money pledged from the Building Schools for the Future programme.

Somerset County Council put six schools forward but only three survived the coalition axe.

The three which have gone ahead – Elmwood has merged with Robert Blake – were more advanced when the axe fell but the council and MP Ian Liddell-Grainger had to fight their cause with Education Secretary Michael Gove.
