A Yeovil man who is selling his skin to advertisers in a bid to raise thousands of pounds for charity is to star in a TV documentary.

Body art enthusiast Chris Watson, 28, is to become a human billboard by allowing companies to advertise on his body in exchange for charitable donations.

Now Channel 4 is to feature Mr Watson’s efforts in a specially-commissioned documentary.

He said: “It is absolutely unbelievable. I’m still waiting to hear about the exact details but Channel 4 are going to send me to Wales where I am going to meet a renowned tattooist and have some artwork done.

“I’m hoping the TV exposure will provide a real boost in prompting other businesses to come forward as their brand will then feature on national television.”

Mr Watson has already added the logos of Yeovil nightclubs Club Neo and Bar 45 to his collection of more than 50 tattoos covering his body.

Both entertainment venues paid hundreds of pounds to the Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance and Cancer Research respectively in return for their logo being permanently displayed on Mr Watson.

Since appearing in the Western Gazette, last month the aspiring vet has hit national headlines.

“It really is taking off,” said Mr Watson. “The bid really has gone national which is great for the charities. I really hope I can push on and raise a lot of money.”

He is also using his body to promote a campaign to save a Yeovil man’s dog.

More than 1,000 people have backed the Save Duke Campaign in a bid to see the return of Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Duke, to owner Jon Smillie, after he was seized by police.

Mr Watson has now had the campaign’s logo inked onto his back. Mr Watson eventually hopes to have the logos of all the charities supported during his mission added to his body.

He said: “I have had a lot of people come up to me in the street who know what I am doing and want to support me.

“But instead of wanting me to get another tattoo they just want to sponsor me so what I am going to do is collect sponsorship from individuals and this money will go to help pay for the charity logos.”

The former pupil of Wadham Community School in Crewkerne grew up in the Ilminster area and is being support by Custom Ink tattooist in Yeovil.

Bristol-based Rataplan Films are already filming a short documentary about his “skin auction” and are following his progress.

At 6ft 4in tall, Chris has a lot of body advertising space to fill, and he plans to leave no surface untouched.
