On November 15 a "Quiz with a difference" was organised at the Wedmore village hall to raise funds for the Weston Super Mare Samaritans.
It was a High Tech quiz played in teams of 10 using interactive handsets. The professional quiz master was Simon Blair who hosts "Child Genius" on Channel Four. The questions, which were General Knowledge, were shown on a large screen together with audio and with 4 multi choice answers.
The evening was a sell out with 12 teams of 10. There was a well-stocked bar to add to the excitement.
Each team had a name connected with Christmas and at the end of each round each team's score came up on the screen – to the delight of some and despair of others.
At the halfway stage a magnificent hot meal, made by Samaritans and helpers, was served.
The Quiz was won by the "Dancers" who happened, appropriately, to contain several Samaritans. The evening was much enjoyed by all especially the Turkeys who made more noise than anyone else but only managed 12th.
As a result of the evening, which also included a raffle and auction, £1,776.43 was raised for the Samaritans. Thanks are due to all of them who helped to raise this fantastic sum.
These kinds of fundraising events are so important to keep the Samaritan centre in Weston Super Mare running and open to take calls from those in distress and despair.
