Planners have recommended a scheme to dispose of asbestos in a quarry in the Chew Valley is refused.
Residents fear asbestos disposed of in Stowey Quarry could leak into the local water supply from Chew Valley Lake. More than 4,000 people have signed a petition, which was backed by local MP Jacob Rees-Mogg.
Bath and North East Somerset Council is to make a decision at a meeting on Wednesday. Council planners said it had not been demonstrated that the quarry was an “appropriate location” to dispose of asbestos.
