Cases Somerset Rebels have built up a 14-point advantage in the League Cup Final after beating Ipswich Witches 53-39 in the first leg at the Oaktree Arena tonight.

Ryan Fisher was drafted in as a guest rider in place of injured skipper Jason Doyle, and contributed an impressive 12+2 to the Somerset cause.

Claus Vissing with 12, and Jesper B Monberg and Kyle Newman each with 9+1, also impressed for the hosts.

The first five heats were all shared 3-3, but Fisher and Alex Davies struck the first major Rebels blow by combining for a 5-1 in heat six.

Davies and Kyle Newman scored another maximum in heat eight, and there were also 4-2 advantages for the Rebels in heats nine and eleven.

The Witches used their tactical ride in heat 12, but Mathieu Tressarrieu in the black and white helmet cover could only finish second to Monberg, meaning just a 5-3 win for the visitors.

Vissing and Fisher promptly posted a 5-1 for the hosts in heat 13, followed by a shared heat 14 and a 4-2 win in the final heat thanks to Fisher in first and Vissing in third.

The Rebels will have to defend their lead in the all-important second leg decider, which will be at Ipswich on Thursday, October 25.
