Pakistan spin bowler Abdur Rehman is poised to join Somerset later this month.

Director of cricket Brian Rose has this afternoon confirmed that Rehman has signed a contract to make a switch to the County Ground, and will join up with the county in mid-July, subject to a visa being agreed.

Rehman, 32, has played in 16 Tests for Pakistan, as well as 23 One Day Internationals, and Rose hopes he will be available in time for Somerset's Lv= County Championship game against Warwickshire at Taunton on July 18.

“He has an excellent first class record, with a bowling avarage not dissimilar to Murali Kartik’s," Rose told the official Somerset CCC website.

"He has played in 16 Test Matches for Pakistan, the latest in Sri Lanka being only last week.

“Rehman also bats reasonably well, going in around number eight, so that was also a plus point when it came to signing him.

“The other positive is that he is not currently in Pakistan’s T20 side, so once he joins us he should be available for the remainder of our season.”
