Young scooter riders are invited to join in the fun with Bath & North East Somerset Council's Scooter Santa Bling party at the Sports Centre in Midsomer Norton on Friday December 7.

The Council has worked with Midsomer Norton Town Council on this event which is on the same day as the switching on of the Christmas Lights.

Those who attend the party, which is between 4 and 6pm, will be invited to "bling" or decorate their scooter and there will be prizes for the best ones. Weather permitting there will also be a festive ride on the floodlit Somer Valley Skate Park.

Bath & North East Somerset Council's cycling development officer, Jim Imeson, will be there along with members of the local MOJO scooter team and representatives from Wansdyke Play Association. They will be offering advice on how to keep your scooter in tip-top condition and stay safe on your scooter over the Christmas holidays.

After the party all the scooter riders will be invited to join in the Nativity Fayre procession on the High Street before the switching on of the town's Christmas lights.

Councillor Dine Romero (Lib-Dem, Southdown), Cabinet Member for Early Years, Children and Youth, said: "Bath & North East Somerset Council has organised this event again because last year's was so successful. Micro scooters are very popular with children and young people and this is a great opportunity for them to get together for a fun event as well as improving their scooter skills."

Scooter Santa is suitable for ages four to 12, and costs £5, which includes party food and a gift from Santa. After the party Santa will also take part in the High Street procession on a special tricycle from the Wheels for All cycling scheme.

Later in the evening, from 7.30pm, there will be a chance for more senior riders to show off their skills at the skate park. Santa-clad riders are invited to perform demos using a new portable floodlighting system.  Entry is free and there will be prizes provided by local traders for those dressed up as Santa.

Booking is essential – please contact Julie Brown on 01225 396240. On booking, supervision can arranged for children in the skate park or five-a-side courts area. Some scooters can also be booked in advance.
