Record crowds attended the 33rd Carole Nash Bristol Classic Bike Show at the Royal Bath and West Showground near Shepton Mallet over the weekend.

Guest of honour was former road racer and 11 times British trials champion Sammy Miller, who brought along two Moto-Guzzis from his collection at Blashley in the New Forest. However, those who anticipated seeing the Ulster legend on Sunday were disappointed as he left the venue before gates were open to the public complaining he felt unwell.

Former European grass track champion Lew Coffin was in attendance on the speedway stand with historian David Stallworthy from Yate, both of whom arrived early to beat the traffic.

Pride of place in the main hall was a pair of road-going BSA Gold Stars – a DB32 350cc and a DB34 500cc, which were on a rotary stand run by the North Devon Club.

Every British Marque was on display, some dating back to the turn of the last century. The Greeves stand also attracted a lot of attention where enthusiasts of all ages pored over the array of Trials, Motocross and Enduro machines that were marketed by the Thundersley, Essex company four decades ago.

The long wet summer, autumn and winter continues to hit motorcycle sport and the Lyn Club’s trial at Parracombe in North Devon on Sunday was called off owing to the wet state of the ground at Kemacott Farm. Also off was the North Berkshire Club’s National event at West Hagbourne near Didcot, and several grass track meetings planned for March have already been put back for at least two months.

Yeovil’s national star Ricky Wiggins travelled to Cornwall for the Camel Vale Club’s trial at Wadebridge where he was the clear winner, losing just four marks.
