Cases Somerset Rebels duo Jason Doyle and Sam Masters had cause for a double celebration on Friday with the news that the pair had been named as members of the 10-rider Australian squad for the Speedway World Cup.

During Friday night's victory over Rye House Rockets, Doyle and Masters also passed significant 700-point milestones in their Somerset careers.

Masters now stands on 710 points, which places him 11th in the all-time list of Somerset point’s scorers, while Doyle has 701 points to his name which puts him just a place below Masters in that list.

Looking ahead to next month's World Cup, four riders from the initial 10-rider squad will be chosen to contest event two at King's Lynn on July 9, where Australia will line up against Great Britain, the Czech Republic and Germany.

“It is a great honour to have two Rebels named in the Australian squad,” said Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock.

“Even if they don’t make it into the side that actually competes in the tournament, they will undoubtedly benefit by being part of the squad and with riders such as three-times world champion Jason Crump.”
