A burglar who broke into people’s homes in Salisbury as they slept upstairs and stole valuables downstairs has been jailed for 18 months.
Dale Read, a 22-year-old from Devizes Road in Salisbury was found guilty of two burglaries, attempting to pervert the course of justice and possessing cannabis.
Police said the victims of his crimes were ‘understandably distressed’ and were made to feel unsafe in their own homes.
The burglaries happened in August last year and both homeowners awoke to find they’d been burgled in the night with items including a phone, tablet computer, camera and other belongings taken.
DC Sarah Chaplin, who brought Read to justice, said: “The victims were understandably distressed that someone had broken into their homes whilst they were asleep, although the value of the items stolen was not excessive, the fact that they were made to feel unsafe in their own homes brings a great deal of stress and anxiety.
“We are pleased with the sentence imposed today which recognises the impact Dale Read had on the victims,” she added.
