Autumn storms are blowing their annual crop of seal pups into West Country sanctuaries and the RSPCA’s renowned wildlife centre in Somerset now has four youngsters in its care.

One is so young that it still had its umbilical cord attached when it arrived, proving that it was less than a week old.

All the pups being looked after at the centre at West Hatch, near Taunton, are grey seals.

The newborn was found at Porthkerry beach, Barry. One of the others was also found on a Welsh beach, while the other two are from Cornwall.
