Firefighters rescued two teenage boys who were stuck in knee-high mud after they waded half a mile out from the shore at Weston-super-Mare, in Somerset.

The pair were left too tired to walk back and became stranded.

The exhausted boys, aged 16 and 17, trudged out to the sea from the Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare, on Friday lunchtime before they became stuck.

They waved down a team of firefighters from Avon Fire & Rescue who were on a hovercraft training exercise, who then returned them to shore.
