Punters in Wincanton can catch their first glimpse of a new sports bar this weekend.
The Red Lion pub, off Market Place, is to open its doors to the public from Sunday.
After being taken over by Paul Wrigglesworth, the former pub has been transformed into Wincanton's only dedicated sports bar, which will project live sport on to a 100in big screen.
Mr Wrigglesworth, who also owns The Boutique nightclub, in Honiton, Devon, said: "I think the sports bar has got great potential.
"We are trying to establish something completely different in the town. There is no point trying to compete with the various food outlets which are all over the place."
John Smith, chairman of Wincanton Businesses Together, welcomed the latest arrival to the town centre.
He said: "This will be very interesting. Being a themed bar could well be the sort of edge that makes it a huge success. However, it will be hard work because all our other pubs and hotels in Wincanton also have their edge or niche. Like any business, it will need to show people they have something special to offer.
"If it attracts new clients to Wincanton who wouldn't normally come here it will be the icing on the cake.
"If not, there is a danger that we will still have a number of pubs fighting for the same-sized pie. That would mean more hard work for all concerned. On behalf of Wincanton Businesses Together, I wish them well in this new venture."
The pub was closed seven weeks ago in the aftermath of an assault.
