Archaeologist and former TV Time Team investigator Professor Mick Aston has signed up to help transform a vital piece of Somerset’s heritage.
The Somerset Rural Life Museum at Glastonbury, which includes the town’s great 14th century Abbey Barn needs a major revamp.
Somerset Heritage Service, part of Somerset County Council, is applying for funds to the Heritage Lottery Fund and other external backers but it needs to show community support go win Lottery Aid.
To do so the service has created a huge banner which can be signed by the public and has already been signed by many schools. Professor Aston, who has lived in and studied Somerset for much of his life, was happy to add his signature and urges others to do the same.
Professor Aston, who lives near Cheddar, left Time Team earlier this year in a row about ‘dumbing down’.
The former Bristol University academic said he was dismayed that the input of regular experts had been reduced by Channel 4.
