Pranksters in Somerset are costing car owners hundreds of pounds by playing a malicious trick.
Exhaust pipes in Axbridge are being filled with expanding foam that sets rock solid – blocking fumes and leaving the exhaust irreparable.
Three vehicles were targeted in this fashion on Jubilee Road and St Mary's Street in the town between Thursday and Saturday.
If the foam sets in the tail pipe section the exhaust could be rescued. However, if the foam has gone further into the system then car owners would have to pay between £50 and £150 for a new exhaust.
Sergeant Mike Tripp of Cheddar police said: "We are appealing to residents of Axbridge to check if they are missing a can of foam from their shed or toolbox.
"We are open-minded but this may be juvenile pranksters who have done this, ignorant of the angst it causes members of the public."
