Police were called to a new fast-food restaurant in Yeovil after reports that a rowdy diner threw his meal at staff.

Customers at KFC, on Houndstone Retail Park, said they saw a man become aggressive in the store on Sunday evening – because he claimed his chicken was burnt.

Elliot Watts told his Twitter followers that the altercation at the restaurant, which opened two weeks ago, saw the man throw his drink over the counter.

He tweeted @ytfcwattsy: “Some bloke’s kicking off in KFC cus his chicken was burnt.

“He’s moaning about the standard whilst he chucked all his meal over the counter, drinks, the lot #joker.”

As police were called, Mr Watts tweeted: “#standoff update. We have police. Yes police. Over some chicken.”

Mr Watts said the unhappy customer was refunded his meal by KFC staff.

Police spokesman Martin Dunscombe, of Avon and Somerset Constabulary, confirmed that officers had attended.

He said: “Shortly after 8pm we were informed of a disagreement between a customer and staff.

“We attended but no further police action was required.”

A KFC spokeswoman said: “The safety of our staff is very important to us which is why we don’t tolerate any antisocial behaviour in our restaurants.

“We have helped the police with their enquiries, and now consider the matter to be closed.”
