A solar farm could be created on farmland in Congresbury. Renewable energy firm, Wessex Solar Energy, has drawn up plans to build an eight megawatt solar energy farm on an 18 hectare acre site at land west of Iwood Lane in the village.
The development would cover 11 fields and generate enough electricity each year to power between 1,794 and 2,555 homes. An estimated 37,000 photovoltaic panels will be laid out in long rows off the ground running across the site.
The panels, which will be up to three metres tall, will each be mounted on a simple metal framework.
A planning application for the scheme has now been submitted to North Somerset Council.
If agreed, work could start on site early next year and take four months to complete.
The solar park would operate for 25 years.
