A teacher trying to dance the length of Britain made an abortive attempt to get back on the road yesterday after he and his support bike were knocked down at the roadside in Somerset last week.

Ben Hammond set off from the spot where his epic John o’Groats to Land’s End dance marathon was cut short last week, but only managed a mile of boogying along the A37 before he said the pain was too great to continue.

Mr Hammond returned home to Bradford on Avon in Wiltshire and promised to re-plan the adventure, which has seen him dance the length of Britain to raise money to fight repression in Burma.

He has broken many dancing world records in previous stunts, and set off at the end of the summer from the tip of Scotland.
