New initiative to tackle community safety in Somerset

A new Somerset-wide community safety partnership is set to be established to identify the main crime problems affecting the county and develop a coordinated approach to tackling them.

Mendip District Council’s cabinet has approved the merger of three existing groups – Mendip and South Somerset Community Safety Partnership, Somerset West Community Safety Partnership and the Somerset Safer Communities Group – under the umbrella of the Safer Somerset Partnership.

It will provide a more coordinated approach and better positions the group to work with the new Police and Crime Commissioner, once he or she takes office in November.
