Minehead have applied to join the Toolstation League for next season.

The Seasiders currently play in the Somerset County League, having been relegated from the Toolstation League at the end of the 2009/10 season.

“We have already applied for a ground inspection from the FA,” said Minehead chairman Brian Walder.

“We believe that Ashton & Backwell are the only other side in the County League who have applied to join the Toolstation League. It could be that we only have to finish in the top five to earn promotion.”

Minehead, once one of the country’s top non-league clubs, experienced a torrid time before being relegated from the Toolstation League three years ago. Previously, they had twice escaped the drop despite finishing bottom.
