Mendip Golf Club professional Kevin Pitts teamed up with Farrington Park teaching professional Terry Williams to take victory in the Gloucester & Somerset PGA Pairs Championships at Burnham & Berrow.
They navigated the tricky Channel Course in an eight-under-par score of 62 to finish two shots clear of the rest of the field, which was led by Mendip Spring duo John Blackburn and Will Hobbs.
The popular annual event sees the pairs play the opening nine holes in a scramble format before changing to betterball scoring for the second circuit around the nine-hole, 18-tee layout on the Somerset coast.
Pitts and Williams built their success on a superb opening trip around the course, which saw them complete the scramble part in just 29 strokes thanks to six birdies – including four on the spin from the fourth.
Another gain was added by Pitts at the tenth before a run of pars was arrested as Williams produced a superb birdie, birdie finish to move the good friends to the head of the leaderboard.
Third spot was shared on 65 by Roy Holland of Long Ashton and partner Shirehampton Park’s James Jakes, along with previous winners Rod Hibbitt of Cotswold Edge and Cirencester main man Ed Goodwin.
