Man is jailed after he admits debt blackmail

A 25-year-old man from Weston-super-Mare has been jailed for three-and-a-half years after admitting blackmail. Kerry Lewis, of Neva Road, was sentenced at Bristol Crown Court yesterday and was ordered to pay £1,400 within the next six months under the Proceeds of Crime Act. The court heard Lewis's victim, who had previously been jailed for possession with intent to supply cocaine, had been told relatives would be kidnapped if he didn't pay a £4,000 drug debt that day. The man, who had made a "clean break" from offending, reported the threats to police.
