A serious multi-vehicle crash closed the M5 motorway in Somerset this morning.
Four cars are reported to have been involved in the collision, which shut the southbound carriageway between junction 19 (the A369 for Portishead) and junction 21 (the A370 for Weston-super-Mare).
Emergency services are at the scene, and police diversions are in place.
Lorries are being diverted via junction 19, onto the A4 past Clifton and onto the A370 near Bedminster before rejoining the M5 at junction 21.
Cars are being sent via the A369 and A370 to also rejoin the motorway at junction 21.
The closure is causing major traffic delays on what is expected to be one of the busiest weekends on the region's roads, as thousands head to the South West for a long Bank Holiday break.
Congestion on the southbound carriageway is being reported to stretch back as far as junction 17 at Cribbs Causeway outside Bristol.
