Lions are told to try again in a year's time

SPEEDWAY: Premier League club Leicester Lions have failed in their quest to ride in the Elite League next season. The East Midlands outfit applied to join speedway's top flight after just two seasons back in the sport, following a 28-year absence, but they were knocked back by the British Speedway Promoters' Association at its annual general meeting at the weekend. The Lions have been invited to re-apply in 12 months' time.
