August 2012, Pass It On Young Sports returned to the outstandingly
picturesque venue of Jacklands Trout and Coarse Fishery in Tickenham
for the second time this year to host another of their famous field
sports taster days. With the sun shining and not a rain cloud in
sight this taster day promised to be just as successful as any of
their previous events this year.
It On Young Sports are a non-profit organisation offering children
and adults alike the chance to try their hand at various traditional
field sports, learn about conservation, handle owls and ferrets and
get to grips with general bush craft skills. Visitors to the taster
days can spend as long as they want on each activity and can return
time and time again during the day, receiving advice and support from
the voluntary advisors present. From shooting an airgun to trying
fly fishing an advisor will always be on hand to guide you through.
For the more experienced, the advisors are always willing to share
any tips and tricks they have picked up along the way.
that Pass It On only established themselves last year, support for
the taster days has been growing rapidly. Within minutes of the
taster day at Jacklands opening, a steady stream of regular attendees
and new faces continued to pass through the gates throughout the day
and the advisers found themselves very, very busy loading the airguns
with pellets and untangling fishing line knots!
well as the many hands on activities on offer, visitors could also
learn about the art of a successful decoy, how to make an attractive
walking stick, tie a fly, handle one of the stunning owls present and
come face to face with a ferret.
event has surpassed even my expectations" said Rob Collins,
Chairman of Pass It On. "Today's event was a massive success.
To my knowledge I know that one young girl, through her grandparents
has now hired a fishing coach so she can take up fly fishing, a
father and son are in the process of buying air rifles and I have
put them in touch with a local target air rifle club, 2 lads have
asked to take up ferreting which I am arranging and a young girl and
her grandmother have now joined the local archery club. Finally I
have sorted out a deal on starter kits for coarse fishing at a local
shop for several other families".
