Cases Somerset Rebels captain Jason Doyle could miss the team's Premier League play-off campaign after suffering a jaw injury in Poland yesterday.

The Rebels, who beat Plymouth Devils 52-41 at the Oaktree Arena on Friday night, are almost certain to finish in the top four and compete for the championship title in the play-offs.

But skipper Doyle, such an important and influential part of the Rebels line-up this season, will be waiting on the results of an X-ray when he returns to the UK today.

The Aussie suffered a suspected broken jaw in a fall while riding in Poland yesterday and, if a break is confirmed, it could mean a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

“Obviously, if confirmed, this is a big blow to our Championship ambitions,” said Rebels promoter Debbie Hancock.

“All we can do at this stage of things, though, is to cross our fingers and hope that the X-rays show that there is no break and that Doyley will be back riding for us sooner rather than later.”
