Politics and history students from Churchill Academy are now back home safe and sound in North Somerset after being trapped in Washington DC by Hurricane Sandy.
Some 45 sixth formers and staff had to stay in the USA an extra week when the freak weather conditions cancelled their scheduled flight on October 31.
One consolation is they were in the country when President Barack Obama was re-elected for a second term. The party got back home yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon.
Churchill Academy puts on a trip to the USA every two years for students to learn about the American political system in the nation's capital and how it compares to our own. The six-day history and political trip was to take in Washington, Gettysburg and New York a week before the US presidential elections.
