Arson and human error have been ruled out as possible causes of a huge fire which ravaged a popular family pub in Yeovil last month.

The Bell, on Preston Road, was completely destroyed after the early morning inferno on Sunday, January 6.

Fire investigators told the Western Gazette last week the severity of the fire and instability of the building meant it had been impossible to establish the cause.

Now owners of the pub, Hungry Horse, say they may never know why it started.

A spokesperson said: "Arson and human error have been ruled out as possible causes of the fire by the police and fire services and due to the severity of the blaze, the cause may never be known.

"We are now working towards rebuilding the Bell in the hope to re-open it later in the year as the family friendly Hungry Horse pub it once was."

Nobody was in the building at the time of the fire.
