Residents were evacuated from their homes last night after a vehicle collided into a gas main in Ilminster.
Firefighters, police and ambulance crews were called to Station Road at 10.20pm, along with engineers from Wales and West.
Neighbouring householders were taken to business properties while an inspection to the damage and possible gas leak was carried out.
They were allowed back home later last night after the all-clear was given.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire engines, a rescue tender and a gas detector monitor to the scene.
Nobody was trapped in the vehicle and the scene was made safe by the gas company and fire service.
