Residents at Alliance Homes celebrates the Olympic and Paralympic Games coming to the UK by holding a skittles tournament at the end of August at Woodspring Stadium, Weston-super-Mare.
12 teams competed, representing just a few of the countries who are involved in the Games. Italy won the Going for Gold tournament, with Kenya and Great Britain coming second and third respectively. Over 100 older residents joined in on the fun, thoroughly enjoying the opening and closing ceremonies, the victory medal awards and the various skittles heats that took place throughout the day. Organic Rhythm, who provide drumming workshops for health and wellbeing, were on hand to keep enthusiasm levels up.
Karen Bennett, Resident Activities Co-ordinator at Alliance Homes, said, "The day was a wonderful success. It took a lot of planning, but it was worth it to celebrate the Games! Everyone got into the Olympic spirit, dressing up in fancy dress and enjoying food from around the world. As we weren't able to get to the Olympics, we brought the Olympics to us! We event had a real Olympic torch to add that finishing touch to the event."
