Dozens of posters put up around Clevedon encouraging people to vote for X Factor contestant George Shelley have been stolen – by his adoring female fans.

George’s mum, Toni Harris, has been busy printing off special posters featuring the band Union J, and putting them in supermarkets, local shops, pubs and takeaways around the seaside town in North Somerset.

But a number of the posters have now gone missing – with young female fans being blamed for their disappearance.

One crowd of girls was captured on CCTV removing a poster which Toni had put up in a town centre supermarket.

More posters are now being printed off and are due to go up around the town over the next few days ahead of Union J’s appearance on the X Factor’s Halloween themed show this weekend.

Mum Toni, other members of the family and friends have been busy whipping up support for the band. Many have the posters in their cars and in the windows of their homes.

George, 19, who was studying to be a graphic designer before being picked by judge Louis Walsh to join the band, is fast becoming a firm favourite with the ladies and the band has a growing army of female fans.

Toni said: “I had printed off loads of posters and had put them up everywhere in the town.

“But nearly all of them have gone – there are only about 15 left.

“A manager at one of the town’s supermarkets said a group of girls had been captured on the store’s CCTV removing the poster and making off with it. It is great that there is such interest in George and Union J, especially as he is a local boy.

“But I have asked people nicely not to take the posters. I am planning to put some more up around the town ahead of the weekend’s live shows.”

As well as the posters Toni has also produced a 10ft banner urging people to vote for George which is put up on roundabouts around the town each weekend ahead of the live shows on Saturday and results show on Sunday.

T-shirts, hoodies and caps have also been produced and are worn by George’s family and friends while they hand out fliers.

Youngsters at Clevedon’s Barn youth centre have also designed a massive Union Jack and have covered it with messages of support for the talented youngster.

Toni said: “The people of Clevedon really seem to love George and are really getting behind him and Union J.

“Music is his passion and he is having the time of his life on the X Factor.”
