A Somerset carnival club is piling up the plaudits with the speed of an express train, and that’s not surprising.

This year’s stunning entry, which took the championship and seven trophies at Gemini’s home town carnival in Ilminster, is called Race Time, Starlight Express.

The club, which also won the championship at Wellington a week earlier, thrilled crowds and delighted judges so much it won the best tableau pose, best costume in procession, best costume on a float, best music on a local float, best build-up, and, of course, best local float, as well as its tableau class.

The parade moves on to Chard next Saturday, with Taunton bringing the South Somerset Federation circuit to a close on October 20.

Selected results

Best Overall: Race Time, Starlight Express, Gemini CC. Best Dressed Tractor: Artic Attack, Club 2000. Best Make Up in Procession: Great British Roar, Thomas and Joseph Sainsbury. Best Routine in Procession: Kelly Leigh School of Dancing. Spirit of Carnival: Bump in the Night, Sidvale CC.
