Steve MacLean could have made his last appearance in a Yeovil shirt after his manager announced he would investigate the striker’s Gigg Lane goal celebration.

The substitute gave Gary Johnson’s Glovers late hope at Bury when he made it 3-2 with three minutes remaining.

However, MacLean – who has played little over a half since Johnson’s return earlier this month – appeared to follow the strike with a gesticulation aimed in the direction of the dugout.

The Yeovil boss did not see the incident but said: “Players are going to be frustrated, of course they are, and when players who have been out of the team score sometimes they are a bit frustrated with the situation.

“But if it was directed at me or the bench then of course that will be the last game he plays.

“I will have a chat with him because you cannot do that.

“You have got to be pleased for the lads and pleased that the manager has brought you on, because in the first game or two I saw there was not enough athleticism or movement in his game.

“I am not talking out of (turn), I will be telling him that and I have told him that.

“If it has earned the goal then great, but if he does not think that it is me that has helped him then he is best moving on.”

A dismal first half where the Gigg Lane visitors conceded three goals contributed to Yeovil’s second defeat to Bury this season.

Johnson vowed to continue improving his squad as they strive to beat the drop, suggesting his focus is now on those players currently at his disposal.

“We have got to try to keep improving it all of the time, whether that is someone here at the moment with his marking, whether that is with someone who needs to get more mental toughness on the ball when they come to places like this, make proper tackles or hold up the ball,” he said.
