Tranmere Rovers’ flying start can allow Yeovil Town to play without fear today, according to manager Gary Johnson.

The Glovers’ weekend hosts are the early pacesetters in npower League One and are yet to be beaten having scored 26 times in 11 games, conceding just six at the other end.

However, Johnson vowed to instil a winning belief into his team before they head north, adding Ronnie Moore’s men will be expected to take the points against a team that last weekend ended a run of six consecutive defeats.

“It is a great test and one where we are the underdogs with no pressure on us,” Johnson said.

“I don’t think they have lost a game yet so it has been a tremendous start for Ronnie and his boys and they have some good players there, as you can see by the top three strikers in the division being at Tranmere.

“But we cannot go there believing we do not have a chance and we will make sure that by the time Saturday comes around we will believe that we have every chance.

“Because they are the ones expected to win sometimes the underdog scenario comes into play and you can play with a little less fear than if you are the favourites.”

Johnson added that he expects even Tranmere to be surprised by their sensational opening. He said: “I think everybody – even Ronnie Moore – has been surprised by their start. They have got some quick players, some strong players and every now and again at this level you can put together a team that gels and looks the part.

“Then you have a bit of a run, you win games 1-0 instead of losing them 1-0 and you hit the post and it goes in whilst your opponents hit the post and it goes out of play. But by the time you have played 46 games that is when you know how good you are.

“They are massively in credit at the moment and they will be happy with that but it is a long season and there is still a huge amount of points to play for.”
