MATCH REPORT: Frome Collegians 1, Middlezoy 1
Frome Collegians had to settle for a point as they were unable to exact revenge for recent cup defeats at the hands of Middlezoy Rovers.
The home side made a hesitant start and this was exploited by the visitors, who applied pressure with their direct style of play.
Middlezoy were rewarded with an opening goal when the ball was played into the feet of the forward, who turned smartly to drive into the bottom corner.
The offside flag denied them another sight on goal but Collegians did not take long to equalise as Luke Oakes showed composure to lift the ball over the keeper and into the net after breaking free of the defence following a poor clearance.
Cutting in from the left, James Rustell twice created a shooting opportunity for himself but narrowly sent the ball wide of the upright.
Middlezoy then saw a shot clip the top of the crossbar before Oakes looked to have put Collegians ahead when he headed a superb Joe Upshall cross goalwards, only for the ball to be deflected over the bar by a covering defender.
A much-improved second half performance saw Collegians create good openings but they were unable to find the winning goal.
Matt March saw two long-range efforts drift wide, Chris Bone had the ball taken away as he looked set to score and Oakes’ shot was blocked when he found space at the far post.
Middlezoy looked dangerous on the break and created a couple of half-chances but Collegians nearly snatched a late win when Rustell’s angled shot looked destined for the top corner, only for the keeper to pull off a fine reflex save.
Frome Collegians travel to St George Easton-in-Gordano on Saturday (2pm).
