Evacuation over explosion fears after fire at Wincanton business site

WORKERS were evacuated from a Wincanton business park after a fire broke out this morning.

An exclusion zone was set up around Southgate Road at around 11.13am today when it was feared an acetylene cylinder would explode .

Firefighters found hoses of welding equipment attached to the cylinder and were able to safely extinguish the blaze.

Crew then used a thermal image camera to ascertain the temperatures of the cylinders and ensure the safety of the scene.

Firefighters left the scene around 1.30pm.
