Two elderly women were cut free from a car following a crash on the A378 between Taunton and Langport last night.

Rescue teams were called to a stretch of the road by Cathanger Wood near Fivehead shortly before 10pm last night.

A Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman confirmed that one vehicle was involved, and that it was on its side in a hedge at the side of the road when emergency services arrived.

Fire crews from Somerton and Martock were joined at the scene by a rescue tender from Yeovil, police and ambulance staff.

After being released from the vehicle, the two casualties were taken to hospital where they were treated for minor injuries.
