Elderly man suffers severe head injuries in Chard lorry crash

AN elderly man was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries after the car he was travelling in was trapped underneath a lorry in Chard yesterday.

The man in his 70s and a female companion were injured when their Toyota Corolla crashed into the back of a lorry outside Roxborough Garage on Hornsbury Hill.

The car was trapped under the lorry's trailer and firefighters had to free the pair.

An air ambulance took the man to Musgrove Hospital with severe head injuries, and the woman was taken in a land ambulance to the same hospital with minor injuries.

Another person was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The road was closed during the incident that happened at around 2.45pm, and was reopened at around 9.50pm.
