Developers wanting to build a new suburb on the north-eastern edge of Chippenham have admitted a public display of their plans backfired.
Robert Hitchins Ltd exhibited their plans for 500 homes, shops and a new school on land between Chippenham and Langley Burrell, and admitted even the choice of venue – a village hall a couple of miles away – was wrong.
More than 100 people saw the plans and almost all said they were concerned about the impact of the new suburb on wildlife and increased traffic on the Chippenham-Lyneham road.
The new homes would be next to a new suburb that has already won permission on the north-west of Chippenham, which will see 750 new homes built.
The 1,250 new homes to the north of the town appear to have scuppered strategic plans to expand Chippenham.
