Dean to take over city university role

Bristol University has appointed Professor Guy Orpen as its new deputy vice-chancellor. Professor Orpen will take up the role when Professor David Clarke's retires next summer. Professor Orpen obtained his BSc at the University of Cape Town. He was later appointed dean of the faculty of science at Bristol and in 2009 became pro vice-chancellor for research and enterprise. Professor Sir Eric Thomas, the university's vice-chancellor, said: "He is a highly valued and accomplished member of this university's senior team."
