Cyclist jailed after collision with a child

A jail sentence for a cyclist who rode through a red light and collided with a child causing her serious head injuries then picked up his bike and left the scene is a warning to all road users Dorset Police said yesterday. Philip Douglas Benwell, 38, from Bournemouth has been jailed for 12 months by Bournemouth Crown Court. He admitted causing grievous bodily harm to the nine-year-old pedestrian when he appeared before the court.
