Councillor's festive appeal to keep Taunton Christmas lights sparkling

Taunton’s “Mother Christmas” Councillor Kelly Durdan is closing in on her target to raise £20,000 to make Taunton sparkle in the festive season.

And Taunton Deane Borough Council is pledging to match fund proceeds raised through the campaign.

Councillor Durdan launched her bid to raise funds after hearing that lack of cash could lead to fewer festive illuminations following a vote by traders not to continue funding the Business Improvement District – BID.

In recent years, BID funding has paid for the lights and Christmas entertainment.

Councillor Durdan is working in partnership with Taunton Town Centre Company with an end-of-October deadline to allow time to buy and install lighting.
