Condé Nast Traveller top 20 hotels in UK: Take your pick from Gloucestershire, Bath, Somerset, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall hotels

If you are planning on a staycation in the West Country next year then you will need to book well in advance at any of these properties.

Top luxury travel magazine Condé Nast Traveller has announced the winners of the 17th Annual Readers’ Travel Awards - and Bath, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Devon and Cornwall all have winning hotels in the top 20 - and Bath was voted the third best city in the UK - beaten only by London and Edinburgh - with the city being awarded the highest score for its architecture.

Popular celebrity wedding venue Babington House near Frome in Somerset was voted the third best hotel in the UK. Zoe Ball and Norman Cook also known as FatBoy Slim got married there in 1999. Gavin and Stacey actor James Corden married his fiancee Julia there in September 2012 in front of many of his celebrity friends and family. And Made in Chelsea reality television star Millie Mackintosh wed her fiancée rapper Professor Green there last September. Considered top drawer for design. It has its own chapel that dates back to 1750, vast grounds, numerous spaces for eating and drinking, Cowshed spa, and 33 individually designed bedrooms. It was closely followed by Hotel Tresanton in fourth place - a converted yachtsmen's club in St Mawes in Cornwall.

In eighth position is Barnsley House near Cirencester in Gloucestershire - a success story for local hotel owners Calcot Health and Leisure Limited as they transformed its fortunes when they bought the well-known Cotswolds' hotels in 2009 after it went into administration.

Michelin-starred restaurant and exclusive spa facilities at Lucknam Park Hotel & Spa near Corsham in Wiltshire won the voters over and made 13 on the list, with coaching inn The Wheatsheaf Inn in Northleach, Gloucestershire at 15 and Gidleigh Park set within the heart of Dartmoor National Park in Devon at 16.
